Maintenance Tips

Note: After exposure to high heat, stainless steel will lose part of its corrosion resistance. To keep the stove body in good condition, please apply a light coat of WD-40 or metal protectant oil on both the interior and exterior surfaces after each use. This helps reduce surface oxidation and keeps the product performing well over time.

  • Clean Regularly: After each use, clean out any ash and residue from the stove and chimney to maintain efficiency.
  • Check for Damage: Inspect the pellet cage and chimney pipes for any signs of wear or damage. Replace parts as necessary.
  • Store Properly: When not in use, store the stove in a dry place to prevent rust and damage.

“The fact that something like this even exists now for camping, that has been made the way it has, as strong and frankly well constructed as it is,working with pellets to maintain a high heat output for UP TO 10HRS of actual heating, designed the way it is to be able to do so, while also remaining mobile, packable and as versatile as it is kind of amazing to me.” -D. Winter Camp Temperature Tests

Test Environment

  • Tent Size: 10×10 feet
  • Test Location: Colorado mountains, USA
  • Temperature Conditions: Nighttime temperatures can drop below zero

Note: different environment and types of tent will affect the final heat outcome.

Temperature Difference Test Results

During actual testing, the Hori 5 pellet stove can achieve a maximum temperature difference of 20°C (36°F) between the inside and outside of a 10×10-foot tent. This means:

  • Outside Temperature: Assuming the outside temperature is 0°C (32°F)
  • Inside Temperature: Using the Hori 5 pellet stove, the inside temperature can rise to 20°C (68°F)

Usage Recommendations

  • Fuel Type: Use high-quality wood pellets to ensure optimal heat output and burning efficiency.
  • Ventilation: Ensure proper ventilation in the tent to prevent carbon monoxide buildup and maintain safety.

Hori5 vs. Hori5 Max: How to Choose the Right Hot Tent Stove

Staying warm is crucial during your outdoor adventures. Both the Hori5 and Hori5 Max are excellent tent stove that hot your journey, but your choice depends on the outside temperature and your tent’s size.

Please refer to the following guide to make the best choice for your situation (for a tent with a floor or a fully enclosed snow skirt):

Outside Temperature Use Hori5 for Hot Tent Use Hori5 Max For Hot Tents
0°C (32°F) Under 12㎡ Over 12㎡
-10°C (14°F) Under 10㎡ Over 10㎡
-20°C (-4°F) Under 8㎡ Over 8㎡

Key Takeaways:

  • Hori5: Ideal for heating small to medium-sized tents in milder cold weather.
  • Hori5 Max: Designed to handle extreme cold or provide ample heat for larger tents.

U-shaped fire channel

It extends the time the flame stays inside the stove, making the stove’s temperature significantly higher than a regular wood stove

Automatic air intake closure

In the final stage of burning, the stove will automatically close all air intakes to prevent air from flowing back.

Enclosed ignition port

There is an enclosed ignition port on the side of the stove

Precision Power Control

The knob and chimney design allow accurate adjustment of firepower to suit different outdoor needs, from cooking to overnight warmth

Pellet Blocking Pin

Insert the blocking pin between the pellet tube and hopper to stop pellets from feeding. The stove will shut down naturally in 15–20 minutes

Expand Storage Rack

The detachable storage rack aligns with the stove’s cooking surface, extending the panel for extra space

Large Fuel Tank

Unlike regular stoves that need frequent refueling,HORI 5’s large fuel tank (12–18 lb / 7–8 kg) provides 6–10 hours of continuous use on a single load

Expanion Accessories

The right-side stove door doubles as an expansion port for connecting an optional water tank

Important Safety Notes

1. Use pure wood pellets only, with a diameter of 6-8 mm and a length no longer than 30 mm. We recommend using softwood pellets for better performance.

If you use hardwood pellets, please do not damp down too much. Make sure the flame fills about two-thirds of the window; otherwise, the chimney may cool down and lose draft.

If you must use hardwood pellets, please test carefully before long-term use, and make sure to operate the stove with a smoke alarm and a carbon monoxide alarm installed in the area.

  1. After exposure to high heat, stainless steel will lose part of its corrosion resistance. To keep the stove body in good condition, please apply a light coat of WD-40 or metal protectant oil on both the interior and exterior surfaces after each use. This helps reduce surface oxidation and keeps the product performing well over time.
  2. After high heat, the stove pipes may become hard to connect or remove. If this happens, spray a little WD-40 or lubricating oil on the joint area. Let it sit for a while, and the pipes will come apart easily.
  3. Make sure the fire keeps burning steadily. If the flame goes out, smoke may flow back into the tent.
  4. Ensure the chimney is in good condition, without any blockage or damage. Please clean the chimney regularly after use.
  5. When using the pellet burner, follow the recommended minimum chimney height, which means using all the chimney pipes included with the stove. Adding extra chimney sections can further improve draft and burning efficiency.
  6. This stove is for outdoor use only. Please keep an eye on it while it is operating.
  7. Do not use materials other than wood or wood pellets as fuel.
  8. Always use heat-resistant gloves when handling the stove. Avoid touching metal parts while the stove is operating or shortly after use, as they may remain hot. Edges may be sharp – handle carefully.
  9. Place the stove on a flat and stable surface to prevent tipping or damage. Do not place heavy items on top of the stove.
  10. Please make sure the ashes are completely cooled down before disposing of them.
  11. Allow the stove to cool down fully before packing or storing.
  12. Using wood or pellets will produce smoke – please keep good ventilation and follow local outdoor regulations.
  13. Do not modify or alter any part of the stove or its accessories.

Great stove! I used the stove for two weeks straight and it almost exceeded all expectations. I had the pellet feeder set to the lowest setting the whole trip and it was plenty warm with temps dropping around 20° F. The only reason I can't give this stove 5 stars is that while cleaning it up after the long trip I noticed that the pellet cage was almost completely burned through in the center. That explains why it started dropping more pellets.. I will need to order another one soon. I'll probably get two just in case. I burned two hoppers per day for two weeks straight, about 250lbs of pellets or so, which I didn't think should be enough to cause that much wear. The build quality is very good, so I was surprised when I noticed it. I would also recommend a modification to the pellet feeder adjustment screws too add a tab that can allow the use of the tool for adjustments. Otherwise, it doesn't take long to get too hot to turn the knobs. I am glad to see a hopper extension because two hoppers a night was perfect (probably closer to a hopper and a half). Overall I'm very happy with the stove and should definitely recommend it. We also made pizzas in the oven and it worked great. I'll be doing some winter camping in Wisconsin this year, so I'll provide some feedback after using it in below zero temps.

Great stove burned all night allowing me to sleep. The handles and latches do expand when it's hot making difficult to open and close. The oven worked pretty well when making pizza. I used wood first to burn off the oils from the factory and just try out the wood burning option first and had no issues with that. Loading pellets was easy and the hyper has the full load option for longer burns or you can break it down for shorter use. My second night of use the pellets were not dropping I to the waste basket and seemed stuck in the cage so the flame shut down and started to smoke but once i cleared it the stove worked perfectly something to watch out for. I burned the stove on the minimum flame setting and it kept me warm all night in -6° temperature. Overall, I'm happy with the stove I think it has a lot of potential.
